2025 torino nice rally poster update 2

“It's not a race, just a challenge to finish and a question of what to ride and where to focus your efforts.” This is the spirit of the Torino Nice Rally: a legendary route, but above all an adventure where everyone rides at their own pace, as they feel.

Created in 2015 by James Olsen, this route is a clever mix of gravel, mountain biking and cycle touring - in short, pure bliss for those who love adventure.

And what an adventure! 700 km through incredible landscapes, passing through legendary passes: we start straight away with the Colombardo, before tackling Italian classics like the Finestre pass, the Assietta, Agnel, Sampeyre, without forgetting the Gardetta pass and refuge...

Just thinking about it brings back memories of polenta and nights in mountain huts.

Then, head for the Ligurian Alps, Queyras, Mercantour and finally, the Côte d'Azur, arriving here in Nice.

Ever since we opened the Rifugio in the heart of Nice, it was a given: we were going to become one of the base camps for the Torino Nice Rally. So we asked James if he was keen, and bingo, we're now an official sponsor!

We are super proud and super excited to become one of the sponsors of the Torino Nice Rally because this rally is everything we love: authenticity, sharing, and zero hassle.

The idea is really to create a gathering of people who just want to ride and live an adventure. And we're there to welcome them, listen to their epic stories and relive their struggles and their best moments... around a Pan Bagnat, an ice cream or a good beer!

Plus, it's for a good cause: all profits go to the Smart Shelter Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Martijn Schildkamp, a Dutch architect, which is developing earthquake-resistant construction methods in Asia.

So we ride for adventure, but also for a slightly better world!

Whether you're at the start or the finish, we're here for you.

A few words from founder James Olsen:

Massacan bikes got my attention before I knew about Rifugio Massacan. When I knew of the rifugio in Nice I realized they had the dream set-up there! I'm so happy that we have this place to unwind at the end of the TNR. The route now takes you to Rifugio Massacan in Nice as our new 'finish line' hang out. Lucie, Matthieu and the team live and breathe this bike travel life and they're regulars between Italy and Nice with their work on Massacan bikes. I don't think there's a better fit for the TNR and my thanks go to them for supporting Smart Shelter Foundation. In time, I hope the partnership leads to me opening and staffing the Col du Peas branch of Rifugio Massacan* :)

The route files will be up online very soon and there's more info in the newsletter that's going out this weekend (sign up via the Contact/Patches page of the TNR site). We'll share every TNR finish photo you post up and tag us in this summer - looking forward to seeing them. Who's going to be first?

*Joking, also sounds like a great career change to me :)
